In between his journey from boredom in the bedroom (Chill At Least, July 2020) to Strangers In the Bedroom (Ongoing series), ICONYK was struck by a realisation and a burning need for Traquil-o-ty, which he describes as ‘more chilled out form of chill,’ that he felt the first version of his July release lacked.
So before this tumulus year goes into its last month, ICONYK thought it was both timely and appropriate to put out a ‘max chill’ 2.0 version of his well-received single. The freshly released bi-lingual track Tranquilo (Spanish for Chill) features Ani Delos, a Columbian singer who ICONYK discovered online, alongside collaborators such as Soother and UpsideDown.

ICONYK (a.k.a Nikhil Malik) felt that there were more meanings to be explored within the track and also the first version was missing the right amount of chill. “This track felt like a MasterChef episode where all the chefs were adding only one ingredient to the dish: chill.” The final result is a captivating, smouldering, delicious slow-burn pop-rap meets R&B number in English and Spanish with lo-fi beats. It’s bound to find its place into your on loop playlists.
ICONYK is a LA/Mumbai based pop-rap producer, artist, multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and performer. He moved to Toronto, Canada at the age of 15 and currently shuffles between Mumbai & LA. His international cultural background and his kaleidoscopic creativity allows him to work on his music from a truly unique perspective fusing Radio-Pop with elements of Hip-Hop, Trap, Rap, and R&B.
He likes to call himself “India’s Kanye West ”. And since he’s already got ‘ICONYK’ as his moniker, so it would be safe to assume that he’s set on making an impact with his upbeat and catchy music featuring ultracool beats. ICONYK has traveled the world and extensively researched fusing genres which have led to the creation of such memorable music. The main goal of this self-taught producer is to have his music reach every corner of the world and be a global name. He aims to put India on a pedestal through his music to highlight the vast cultural heritage of the country of his origin. While Nikhil shuttles between LA and Mumbai every few months, he is originally a Delhi boy. He has in fact been a part for quite a few well known Delhi-based bands such as Blank Noise, Half Step Down, Cyanide followed by Meattle & Malik with (singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle).
As a part of his erstwhile music production company with partners, he has also composed music for a number of films, most notably M Cream.

Chill At Least | July 2020: Iconyk’s first release of the year was born of boredom during the first phase of Covid-19 lockdown in India. Chill At least is a slow-burn pop-rap meets R&B offering that saw Iconyk team up with one of his favourite collaborators the LA-based producer UpsideDown. The single deals with modern-day relationships that revolve around a bout or two of ‘Chill At Least’. This track aims to cut through a wave full of trap beats and emo rap, with a refreshing blend of modern romanticism, simplicity, and Urban Dictionary-savvy hooks.

His 2019 debut single Fallin got featured in Spotify’s major international playlists including New Music Friday Canada , Bangers , Fresh Sounds , Bridge to Bombay , Treadmill Pop , Now Playing: Pop . Summer Love , Dance-Pop Hits etc. That was followed by a feel-good summer dance anthem titled Lifestyle in 2019.
Strangers In My Bedroom | Ongoing Instagram-based series: ICONYK made the most of the humdrum brought on by the lockdown, as he let his creative genre fly off with his instagram-based project. Titled Strangers In My Bedroom, this collaborative feature that came together on DMs (Direct Messages) on the popular social media app, was surely fun to conceive and record.
Strangers In My Bedroom took shape post Iconyk’s discovery of some wonderful talented ‘strangers’ that he came across and connected with online. “These are artists I’ve never met before and only have had an online relationship with them where we like each other’s pictures, talk about music and do everything else virtually, due to the lockdown. Since both me and my collaborator are working on the music while sitting in our respective bedrooms, I thought Strangers In My Bedroom would be an apt name,” says Malik.
