Rianjali enquires if you’re truly Okay?

The song is incredibly relevant to the situation we all find ourselves in today – uncertainty as the world seems to devolve every day. Feelings expressed are often not the ones truly felt. People calibrate emotions in order to convey a certain image or persona to other people. Genuine feelings are much deeper, and even sometimes, much more painful and darker. We force ourselves to put on a smiling face and say everything is okay, that if we last a little longer, there will be brighter days. This song explores the flip side of that – sometimes things are just not okay. This is Rianjali’s differentiating song; it’s upbeat, even though the content is not.

Expanding on this sentiment, Rianjali explains, “I wrote this song in the midst of the pandemic. I felt overburdened, lost, scared – constantly trying to tell myself “everything will work out”. But what if it’s not? The truth is that we’ve all lost a lot, some more than others. And a lot of it is irreversible. I see that we’re all falling apart a bit but we always follow it up with “let’s look on the bright side, this is temporary, we’ll be okay,” and I’m not sure how much of it we believe.” “I wanted this song to hit differently. The music gives you that upbeat, positive feeling but if you listen to the lyrics and the melody – you’ll hear my voice: this constant up and down, covering up the truest pain,” she continues.
