Singer-Songwriter Suhasini shares stirring single ‘People Losing People’

New Delhi based Independent Singer-Songwriter, Suhasini released a new single ‘People Losing People’ on August 19th 2021. The song is an open diary-entry of one of the worst crises the world has found itself in, losing loved ones due to Covid-19.

Describing the emotion sparking the song, Suhasini says, “This is not a song to make them feel better, rather it acknowledges the pain that has hit the ones who have lost their friends or family in this situation and lets them breathe through it. It came together when I heard the news that one of my closest friends lost his Dad and Grandmother in the same week due to Covid. I couldn’t imagine what he was going through, so I did what I do best, try to share some of his pain through a song.”

‘People Losing People’ is not only a poignant moment in Suhasini’s artistic trajectory, but throughout it feels like a series of personal anecdotes. Disguised by the uplifting melodies, there’s a narrative lying throughout that is extremely honest. Suhasini has crafted something that very much ignites a flame in all of us.

The Pop- Ballad is made up of emotions screaming out to whoever listens. Haunting harmonies coupled with a strong yet fragile music made by TZEJAX, a Producer from Delhi. It goes through various ups and downs, starting with a soft, broken voice, then denial and blame, and finally anger which builds up and breaks down again. The line ‘Weren’t they supposed to save me?’ is a helpless cry for the authorities, both governmental as well as those whom we look up to in life- our parents, our guardians- to feel safe. The cover art shows Suhasini holding on to a broken piece of wood, in a town where nothing is left anymore. The streets have been abandoned, everyone has either left or is scared and inside their houses, waiting for it all to be over.

WWM – What’s your creative process like?

Suhasini – I try to replicate my thoughts into words as closely as possible, the feeling that you’re writing the song with has to come through when you sing it / when someone listens to it. When the lyrics and words are finalized, I work with my producer to add instruments to it that amplify that feeling!

WWM – Tell us about the experience of making your new song people losing people. All of us share the sentiment, but can you share what your emotional journey has been like through the pandemic.

Suhasini – Pandemic is one crazy ongoing ride, Apart from the loss that the world has gone through, it’s been hard on the mental health as well. I’ve seen my family and friends go haywire trying to arrange a bed or an oxygen cylinder for their loved ones and the constant mental pressure that you go through worrying every second, about every droplet of air and everything that you touch, it’s not easy. Safe to say that I’ve written a lot more sad songs than happy ones, because that’s what you constantly think about right ? It’s been hard.

WWM – What are your musical plans for say the next 6 months? What are your musical aspirations in the longer run?

Suhasini – The short-term plan is to shift from the emotional segment and release upbeat Pop music ! Really excited to see the response of my listeners. The long -term is to tour nationally and internationally!

WWM – Tell me about your musical background

Suhasini – I’ve been playing and writing music since I was 14, growing up, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato were one of my biggest inspirations! My family has always been into arts but music has been a common love, especially for my dad. He believed in me and helped me in making music my career.

WWM – How has your practice change over time?

Suhasini – I’ve developed a good routine for vocals, I consistently work on new music and collaborate with different artists. From not knowing how to start to developing a solid routine is a personal achievement!

WWM – If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Suhasini – Definitely Demi Lovato or Lauv.
