‘Devil On My Shoulder’ sounds like you’re already at a Tom Auton show

Cardiff Rocker Tom Auton is back with his new single ‘Devil On My Shoulder’. Coming fresh off the back of a show supporting Welsh legends Feeder at their hometown show in Newport, Tom once again demonstrates his ability to create invigorating, uptempo rock music that’s packed with commercial appeal. With a flurry of national radio and Spotify official playlist support already to his name, Tom also completed a UK headline tour to promote the new single earlier last month.

Blending rip-roaring guitar riffs, punching drums and deep bass under his pinpoint vocal delivery, Tom creates an intense, adrenalin fueled soundscape packed with earworm vocal hooks and huge guitar licks. Comparable to the likes of Royal Blood, Queens Of The Stone Age & Nothing But Thieves it’s easy to see why Tom has been having so much success with his music to date.

“Devil On My Shoulder is about inner conflict. It’s a song that talks about the war between your good self and your bad self. Sometimes I feel like I’m my own worst enemy and I’m the only one that holds myself back. I was incredibly hungover, contemplating all the stupid decisions I had made the night before. As I was reliving all the mistakes I’d made, I started playing, what is now, the main riff of the song. Weirdly, writing songs when I’m hungover has proven to be a big hit with me. My mind is normally racing around at 100mph, and when I’ve had a drink the night before, my head is just like a big ball of mush. But this makes it really easy for me to create without overthinking. Hopefully not a routine I go through every time I write a new song…” – Tom Auton

And he’s exactly right, because this song does anything but the ordinary. Arresting with a heat wave guitar, the track builds into a high energy and melodious chant. It’s so easy to feel like you’re already at one of his shows. You can practically hear the crowd singing along, and feel the mosh pit forming with the track’s hammering outro.

Recorded, produced and mixed by Tom himself in two studios, Longwave Studios & Tom’s home studio, ‘The Syncopation Station’ the new single reflects the hours of work that Tom puts into his art. Having gained vast amounts of support from Spotify Editorial Playlists, features in NMEand DIYas well as radio play from the likes of Sirius XM, Amazing Radio, BBC Radio Wales and Jack Saunders (Radio 1), Tom Auton is well on his way to establishing himself on the national rock scene.
