‘Loose Lips’ is just a wonderfully easy-going EP

Violet Lewis is a singer/ songwriting from Los Angeles, currently studying songwriting at Berklee College of Music. Her songs are characterized by moody, poetic and autobiographical lyrics draped over a sweet and sometimes edgy sound. She released her four-song EP “Loose Lips”, on January 7.

About the EP, she says, “People always say “my lips are sealed” but this is the opposite of that. My lyrics are my experiences, anxieties and secrets shared without hesitation.”

The opening track ‘Augustine,’ is a slow and broody, clanging, echoing, slow and hazy, a float-away-in-a-mist kind of dreamy track. ‘Fake Nails’ is slow, loungey, melancholy and acoustic-ish, a track of longing minor chords and angular strumming. ‘Don’t say Goodbye’ is more easy-going and relaxed, the vocals rising up and up, the tremolo effect of Violet’s voice warbles alongside the overlaid strings.

The closing track, ‘George Orwell’ is a wonderfully subtle and laid back tune of calm guitar schmooze, coasting with upvibe rhythms. We look forward to hearing more from this young singer. Our overall take on “Loose Lips” is one of hazy, dreamy, poppy good vibes.
